My "Acrophobia" series is a collection of high bridges. I have a phobia of heights and it is hard for me to go over big onramps and bridges due to a bad accident as a 18 year old girl. I ended up in the hospital for four months and wore a back brace for one year. I lost my opportunity to continue to be a cheerleader...it was a painful and bummer of a year. I healed...I was fine and energetic ...I could do any sport after the healing without a problem.
About 30 years later....I started to panic and get anxiety going over high places especially if they had a curve in the road.
I decided to paint the bridge series to heal myself. I think it is helping me.
If you know someone who has this difficulty, possibly they can now understand how important it is for people to understand your fear and to help you deal with it.
This is the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, California.
